USPDF Regionals are over!!

And what a show!!! Concluded with the West Cost Regionals this past Saturday, the USPDF compiled quite an impressive grouping of competitors. The judges had a daunting task set before them trying to select the last group of finalists for the championship in March.

And the seats went to.....
1st Place: The stunning blonde Miss Amber Richard
2nd Place: Legs for days Mrs. Leigh Ann Orsi
3rd Place: The sultry Estee Zakaar

and.... earning their pro status Zoraya "warrior princess" Judd (that's what I call her ) and the awe inspiring Faith Daniels.

Frankly I don't know how the judges did it. The competition out there is getting tougher and tougher. The level of difficulty is at it's peak, and it seems every competition sets the bar for the next with a wild leap forward.

The national US Pole Dance Championship 2010 will be held at Symphony Space, Friday March 19th 2010 in New York. Only USPDF members can apply. Submission deadline Dec 1st at 12:00PM.

Looking forward to another great show! Now we anxiously await the results from Miss
Pole Dance UK 2009.

Lastly, for those of you looking for sumthin to do on Halloween....
Head on over to Vegas for round 2 of the Vertical Pole Challenge. This round hosts the lovely Jenyne Butterfly as guest performer and technical judge. Help support pole dancing's move to television with this competitive series slated to air on Bravo in December.

Competition Month

October is the busy month in the world of pole!!! We started out the month with USPDF East Coast Regionals. Congratulations Karol Helms for taking home the title of USPDF East Coast Winner 09! Amazing performance! We also want to congratulate 2nd place Lauren Goldstein and 3rd place Takeila Fox, who also rocked! And last but not least, we want to congratulate Gabrielle Valliere and Jessalynn Medairyfor taking home pro-status.

Next in the line up we have the California Pole Dance Championship this Thursday at the Green Room in Los Angeles. Very excited to have Guest Performer, the ever elegant Felix Cane. Ladies, she is flying in for a one night performance. If you have not purchased your tickets.... waste no more time. Her afternoon workshops sold out in a hot minute. Some super sassy competitors are going to be strutting their stuff. A must see evening of pole perfection.

Then we skirt over to Essex for The British Isles Pole Dance Champion 2009 on October 16th. This competition is for Amateur, Professional & Champion Pole Dancers from all over the British Isles.

And we're not done yet....

October 24th USPDF West Coast Regional Competition 2009. What goes East must go West. Round two of

the USPDF Regionals. Another sensational demonstration of pole artistry as top competitors

from the West Coast bring all they've got to gain those coveted top three spots. Tickets are still

available and for those coming in from outside LA, Group Rates are available at the Hollywood

Heights.

Next, we fly to London for Miss Pole Dance UK. Miss Pole Dance is the one of the most important pole dance competitions in the world and returning to the Scala for another year. The competition starts at 13.00 with an all dayer event.A showcase offering Pole Sport and Fitness with dancers keen to watch and be part of this cutting edge performance and competition.

Lastly, we finish off the month with Americas newest reality show, The Vertical Pole Challenge in Las Vegas. Filming it's second episode, we look forward to seeing this new hit air on BRAVO this Holiday season. Each episode women compete for the top three seats earning a spot in the finals and winning cash prizes from $1000-$2500. Those that make the finals will be competing for a grand prize of $25,000 and lots of other goodies. We have finally made it to television!!! And on a non Spike TV station!!! Props to Pole Dancers!! Who won round one??? Tune in to the first episode to find out!

I went to the loveliest little Pole Cabaret Exposition this weekend. The crew was Rock Angel students who were strutting their stuff for a very intimate, invitation only, group of viewers. As always I am ever so impressed by the artistry that is portrayed every time I see a pole performance. Am very honored to have been an audience member. MEN Pole Dancing! Can it be?

So many men out there are starting to feel a little competitive with the ladies when it comes to this pole dancing thing. Now I am not saying that they want, or can even come close to being able to treat this skill set with the grace and agility that women can. It is just that whole strength and power thing. Man must be strong, Women mild and meek... Phooey. But I think we should give them a shot. Let's see what they come up with.

With the addition of a Men's competition in the 2010 Worlds and talk of pole work reaching the 2012 Olympics, it's not a surprise that men's classes are starting to pop up. The origins of pole work actually take us back to men. Not that they were the ones that decided women should do it, more that they were the ones that started getting competitive jumping and tricking around tall thick poles stuck in the ground. You can take away what you want from that visual. (Check out The History of Pole tab to see a clip) Women elected to make it pretty.

So.....

Very excited to find out about a Coed Pole Workshop hosted this coming August by Slinky Productions in San Francisco. I am very curious to get a little feed back on this one and hopefully some photos to share with all of you. To be quite honest, I can think of a few couples that have been waiting for an opportunity like this! Naturally, details are posted on the Calendar.

Firstly, how cool is this venue? (once you find it) Drove by the door three times before finding the place the first time. public signage isn't all that great so look for the bouncers and a glowing red doorway. Inside it is eloquently styled in the fashion of an LA brothel from the past.

The Show!

Hot Hot Hot! This group likes to mix it up. The little devils have hosted burlesque events with themes spanning from the world of Barbie to that of Video Game vixen. Peformances vary from week to week offering classic burlesque, pole, live music and more. Last night featured Sin Fisted, L.A. Exotic Dancer Of The Year, Extreme Pole Dancer & Contortionist. If you have never seen this daring darling she puts on quite an impressive show, and the Devilish Ladies are simply lovely.

Pass the Pole

So every week I have women walk into my class and ask me how I got my butt and abs. I wish I could say it was genetic, but sadly that's not the case. I work my tail, no pun intended, off every week and actually impose rules upon myself to ensure that I do something every day. My personal favorite is the "Pass the Pole Rule." This rule states that if I am wearing clothing that will not rip, split, or strain while walking by the pole in my home, I must do at least 8 reps of something, climb the darn thing, spin, or invert. Yes working out in general is a great way to stay fit and condition for pole, but........ain't nothin' like the real thing baby. There are muscles that you can only seem to find on the pole. My downstairs neighbors love the occasional thump of me having the accidental oopsy now and then.

The newest of venues for professional pole exposition, LAs Club Good Hurt puts on quite a show. Recently featured in the LA Times. What you can expect is a grouping of spectacular pole and aerial performers. Last week the queen of sexy, Alethea Austin of BeSpun Studio, most recently dubbed "Miss Sexy" at the 2009 US Pole Dance Federation Competition, proved that she well deserves this title. Supple and organic, Miss Austin moves with the fluidity of water, wrapping herself sensually around the pole. Last night highlighted the elegant Leigh Acosta of X-polesitions performing on both pole and hoop. Honestly, I didn't know who to watch..... Do I watch the beautiful brunette (fully clothed) in pink satin effortlessly manipulating herself up, down, and around the pole? Or do I watch the 2 gentleman standing behind her with dropping jaws and bulging.....eyeballs? About every 30 seconds or so I watched each of them mouth the words "holy $@#&!". This venue changes from show to show dependent on the band for the evening. Last night was a blast from the past highlighting 80's and 90's classics like, my favorite, Ninja Rap. But previous performances had a much more metal vibe. Ladies on the pole generally do not emerge before 10:00 pm so plan accordingly. Check it out!

Feeling Healthy

Pole dancing is one of the best forms of exercise I have ever experienced. Since I started this I have had so many people ask me what I am doing differently because I look great. It's physical and an actual energy that has become a part of me. I feel more confident. Now, I admit, I try to be on the pole at least 4 times a week to stay conditioned, but it just doesn't feel like exercise until I finish a few songs and realize that I'm breathing heavy. Goodness when I started inversions and climbing I was so sore, but got strong so fast simply because it didn't feel like working out. It felt like jamming out with a group of amazing women who were all there cheering me on. My arms have become sculpted and tone, I'm getting lovely washboard abs, and at this point am getting closer daily to being able to crack a walnut with my thighs. Well, maybe not a walnut. I just said that to impress any men reading this. The beautiful thing is that the muscle build doesn't happen in a bulky way because you're only manipulating your own body weight. What makes me fell like a real rock star is when my guy friends try and climb the pole or lift themselves and they get that look of realization. It makes me smile every time.

Dancing For Men: to dance or not to dance

This has been such an emotional journey for me over the past few years. The pole has been the silent partner that allowed me to be angry, sad and feel beautiful. And the darn thing never talked back, made inappropriate comments, or asked what was wrong. It was just there to support me while I got through whatever I needed to. Now that it a golden resource. So would a guy laugh at me if I started dancing around the pole or would he think I was beautiful. Does a guy really equate ...pole...with....trashy women? Or can they open their minds to more?

This one is a tough call. I would have to say it is between the X-pole and the ever so easy up and down tension mount Lil' Minx. Safety first. X-pole is awesome just more time with the install. Lil' Minx is up and down in five minutes or less. Both travel well. What are your thoughts?
